I’m designing a footwear for the consumers of Whole Foods Market, who are all about health and eco-friendliness.  The piece of footwear will be modular, allowing the replacement of parts, hence reducing on our carbon footprint.  Since its modular, it is also customizable!

PENSOLE @ PARSONS 2011_Day 5.

So it has been a week into the PENSOLE program and it has been an awesome ride.  To be able to spend 4 weeks hanging out with like-minded sneaker enthusiasts is something I will have never dreamed of prior to this, especially for someone like me from Singapore.  Surreal.

Just a quick recap, this week we started with a great intro into the footwear industry by our main man, Dwayne Edwards (DE), followed by a 3-part SOLEcial Studies by Sean Williams of Obsessive Sneaker Disorder.  He took us on a journey into the world of sneakers, starting with history, how the culture came to be, cause and effects, etc.  Being a sneakerhead, sneaker culture is something that you constantly read or hear about via online or magazines.  However, being able to sit in a room, listening to someone who is part of it all, sharing stories and insights – now thats an experience!

So Day 5, following the class feedback session yesterday, we presented our refined briefs and inspirations again.  Today we had guests, Izzy (from NSW 21 Mercer) and Maze (from KixandtheCity.com).  It was pretty cool to see Maze pop by since I’ve been regularly visiting his site and been tuning in to his online videos.  Feedbacks from DE and our guests were insightful.  I believe everyone in the class today gained some really good insights on their projects.

Now for the long weekend ahead, looking forward to some serious bonding sessions with my new found homies – out!

IAM1 x INSA by Protein® TV

In 7 days INSA ran the city of east London, painting 35 pieces on route of Charlie Dark’s map for The IAM1 Journey Nike Sportswear project. Produced by Protein and documented by INSA’s long time collaborator, photographer Ethel, each of the 35 hand painted pieces form one of the centre pieces of INSAs major London solo show for 2009. This IAM1 Journey animation will be deconstructed within the “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” show with behind-the-scenes processes alongside the original painted objects that make up the individual frames.
